Free workshops and shop for residents to help turn their ideas into startup businesses, making money doing what they love.

The pioneering startup team from The PopUp Business School are looking to build on the success of their recent two week event in The Oracle shopping centre Reading, by running a two-week workshop in Croydon to help local residents launch new businesses and give them the opportunity to trade from the Whitgift Shopping Centre. Working alongside partners, Wandle, Amicus Horizon, Croydon Council and The Croydon Partnership; the joint venture between Westfield and Hammerson which is set to redevelop Croydon’s retail centre and the Whitgift Centre, have provided a shop front to work and trade from. The PopUp Business School want to meet people with ideas for businesses they can help to get off the ground and get going.

The PopUp Business School will be in the Whitgift Centre for two weeks from Monday 10th of October to Friday 21st of October and local residents will be able to book free places on the course, to come in, take part in the business skills workshops and talks, as well as use the shop space to test their business ideas and sell their products or services. Workshops include skill-building sessions like how to build a website for free, how to start a business with no money and how to find customers through social media. The PopUp Business School will cover every aspect of starting, owning and running a business.

Co-founder the PopUp Business School Simon Paine said: “We want to help you get going. People who are fed up with the daily grind, who want to try something new. People who struggle to get their ideas off the ground. Business has changed so much that there are more possibilities than ever to get an idea going quickly, even if you haven’t got any money. We want to help you make that happen. This is a one-off opportunity to get expert help to bring your business ideas to life and get trading with no rent, rates or expenses. Our sponsors have also made arrangements for the store to remain open after we've gone and we'll be returning in November and December to offer more support before a final 2 days on 20th December to celebrate your successes and close the store with a bang. So come in and start test-trading in the Whitgift Centre Croydon in the run up to Christmas.”

“Most people think you need a business plan and funding to get an idea off the ground. We show people how to start with no money, find the confidence to get going and make sales,” added PopUP Business School co-found Alan Donegan.

About PopUp Business School

Frustrated by the traditional approach to starting up, co-founders Alan Donegan and Simon Paine decided to challenge the system when they set up five years ago. Forget suits, ties and briefcases. PopUp Business School is all about offering BIG opportunities to every member of society, from lone parents to the unemployed, people with disability and ex-offenders, NEETs and other disadvantaged members of the community.

PopUp Business School is the polar opposite of tried and tested approaches to enterprise support. Rather than preach the importance of business plans, company structures and loan funding, Donegan and Paine turn this model on its head to achieve far greater results. Using a combination of the latest online business models and a rapid approach to sales, PopUp Business School is fast, smart and seriously hard hitting and their results speak for themselves, with 50% attendees getting going within two weeks.

Over the past five years Donegan and Paine have worked tirelessly to transform PopUp Business School from an ambitious idea into a nationwide enterprise that’s helped hundreds of Brits kick-start their commercial dreams, with zero reliance on grant funding!
