A free, 10-day business school to help people create their own sustainable income doing something they love returns to Croydon later this month.
The PopUp Business School, which is sponsored by Croydon Council, The Croydon Partnership (the joint venture between Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and Hammerson, which is set to redevelop the town’s retail centre), Optivo, Wandle and Start Up Croydon, begins on 26 November and will take place in the Whitgift Centre.
The school, in its third year, is open to all, but particularly aimed at unemployed Croydon residents who are interested in starting their own business, or who have already started but want some more assistance to make it a success.
Those taking part this year will be taught valuable skills such as how to start a business with no money, how to build a website for free, tax, law and company set up, as well as giving participants the confidence to start their own business.
Each of the 10 days will run between 10am and 3pm, with free trading space offered in the Whitgift
Centre during the week following the course to help participants start making money immediately.
Councillor Manju Shahul-Hameed, cabinet member for economy and jobs, said: “The PopUp Business School is something we’re really proud to sponsor and be part of.
“It gives people an opportunity to get into working for themselves and make money doing something they’re truly passionate about.
“If you’re interested in starting your own business I would definitely recommend taking part in this fantastic course.”
Steve Yewman, Development Director at Unibail Rodamco Westfield, said: “The PopUp business school is a fantastic initiative that we are proud to be both sponsoring and hosting for the third year in a row.
“Its goal of fostering new small businesses and helping local people turn their ideas into reality is at the very heart of both what we want our community programme to achieve and our goal of ensuring that as many people across the borough benefit from our involvement in the town.”
Carolyn Kenney, Development Director, Hammerson, said: “In previous years we have been incredibly impressed by the energy, enthusiasm and ideas of the participants and we hope that, by working with the PopUp team, in conjunction with our co-sponsors Croydon Council, Start Up Croydon, Optivo and Wandle, 2018 will be an equally fruitful year.”
