The Croydon Partnership, the joint venture between Westfield and Hammerson which is set to redevelop Croydon’s retail centre, is pleased to be hosting Croydon’s first Teenage Market at the Whitgift Centre on Saturday 10th December.
A fast-growing, national initiative which began in Stockport in 2012 and has since proved successful in over thirty locations across the UK, the Teenage Market aims to revitalise town and city centres by giving young people a free platform to showcase their creative talents as they become market traders for a day.
The Teenage Market encourages entrepreneurialism and supports young people in trialling new business ideas and selling products. In addition to providing a unique retail offer, live performances from young bands, dancers, musicians and stand-up comedians are an integral part of the Teenage Market and help create a thriving and bustling marketplace which succeeds in attracting a new generation of shoppers and visitors and increasing footfall and spend in the local area.
The Whitgift Centre’s festive Teenage Market, hosted by the Croydon Partnership, will be the first to be held in Croydon and will feature carol singers and Christmas activities. With six traders already confirmed, there are only a further six stalls still available for Saturday’s event. Priority for stalls will be given to those living within the London Borough of Croydon.
Steve Yewman, Development Director, Westfield, said: “We are delighted to host the first teenage market in Croydon and help uncover and support the retailers of the future."
Carolyn Kenney, Hammerson, said: “The Teenage Market is a great initiative, providing the perfect platform for local young people to experience selling their products to customers. It also gives people the chance to actively engage and take part in events in Croydon, which is central to our work in the community.”

About Croydon Partnership’s plans for Croydon
The Croydon Partnership’s £1.4bn scheme will transform Croydon’s town centre into a 1.5m ft² state-of-the-art retail, leisure and restaurant destination, together with new public realm, creating 5,000 new jobs, new car parking and between 400 and 1,000 new residential units including affordable housing. This will provide the kick start to Croydon’s much needed regeneration, attracting new residents and visitors back to the town centre for the benefit of all local businesses, whilst delivering a safe destination for families.
